Enjoy an evening of accessory design as we practice the art of creating your own handbags from scratch. As we discuss the style elements which spark your interest most, we will work through basic skills necessary for conceptual design and construction. All materials will be provided and no prior experience is necessary, yet if you already know how to sew this could be a great opportunity to fine tune your expertise.
In this two hour and a half hour workshop each attendee will learn the elements of handbag design, and will leave with a completed clutch of your creation. We will focus on skills such as:
- Marking and cutting out pattern pieces
- Basic sewing stitches for assembly
- Installing hardware such as snaps and grommets
As we explore the essentials of conceptual accessory design from start to finish we will also address the differences between working with common clothing materials and those reserved for handbags and backpacks. Whether creating a piece focused on form or function, the right materials should be considered for your finished product.
What to bring?
- Your style sense.
- Already own a sewing machine? You are encouraged to bring this as well, otherwise the necessary tools will be provided.
Who's it for?
Anyone looking to learn how to learn how to create their own accessories to further their own personal style, or perhaps hone in on how to create their own brand.
When does this class meet?
This class meets on Wednesday, April 29th from 6-8:30pm.
Ashley Adkins is one half of a sisterly design duo called Ivy & Kind. Her background lies in textiles and pattern design which started with learning how to stitch from online blogs and open source sewing communities. After attaining her degree at Middle Tennessee State University she has yearned to promote these skills through block printing, sewing workshops, and showing her wares at local craft markets and shops. When not sewing she can be found exploring local hiking trails, searching for new hidden gems and admiring new textures along the way.
