On Friday, January 30th, come grab some free coffee from our friends at Steadfast and chat with acclaimed food blogger and stylist, Hannah Messinger, during the week's installment of The Skillery's Office Hours.
About Office Hours:
On Friday mornings, we invite Skillery members and friends in for free drip coffee and coworking with a bonus educational component we call Office Hours. Each week, a local or visiting pro — from content creators to PR veterans to busy shop owners — will meet, greet, share valuable biz wisdom and answer your questions, in a casual group setting. It’s our weekly get together with local professionals, and you’re invited.
About the Host:
Hannah graduated from Boston University with a degree in Photojournalism in 2009. By 2011 she had a full time job working for a hotel chain and good Lord have mercy, did she hate it. As it often goes in office settings, the management would frequently buy food for the staff to keep up morale. When a manager came in with supermarket cake, she had a pretty standard reaction of feeling like she was getting paid extra, but after she had eaten the cake, or whatever it was that day, she couldn't help but feel ten times more defeated for having a lousy job and having eaten lousy food.
During her sentence to work at 6:45 in the morning one Sunday, Hannah stumbled upon the blog La Tartine Gourmande and started reflecting on how little happiness or gratification she was able to glean from her life or diet. So she decided she was never going to eat anything that wasn't absolutely delicious ever again. The word "delicious" really got the wheels in her brain turning. There is food you want, like supermarket cake, and there's food that is good, like casserole made with condensed mushroom soup; you eat it, you regret it and you never want to talk about it again. Food that is actually delicious is a totally different ballgame, one that deserves to be remembered and cherished through words and photographs. And so her blog was started: Nothing but Delicious, a collection of food worth remembering.
She met her husband, a freelancer in the film industry, in 2012 and he encouraged her to leave her job as the Director of Production at a design firm to freelance full time. Since then, she has contributed to publications such as The Tennessean, Food 52, Foodie Crush, Chickpea and Darling Magazine, as well as styled for Oxmoor House and Better Homes and Gardens. She has cooked for and hosted a number of dinners, including two Kinfolk gatherings. She was named "Great Food Photographer of the Month" by Huffpo Taste in October of 2014 and listed as one of "19 Instagrams You Need to Follow Right Now" by Thrillist.com.
