The pride that comes with entrepreneurship is… it’s not that it’s contagious, necessarily, but it tends to carry with it a desire to help others who are hoping to head down that path, so they can feel it too. It’s at the heart of why The Skillery created our Intro to Entrepreneurship workshop series and study-at-home Starter Kit, why we opened our coworking space, why we’ve worked to surround ourselves with an army of inspiring Nashville entrepreneurs.
In that army: The folks behind Porter Flea, Nashville’s premier maker market, coming up again Friday and Saturday, Dec. 9-10.
Porter Flea was launched and is led by local entrepreneurs who, for six years now, have provided an invaluable, twice-annual spotlight for artists and artisans and shop-small goldmine for shoppers. Having bounded over the big five-year small-business milestone, this year, the Porter Flea team — with a little support from us — is setting its sights on building up the next class of creative entrepreneurs.
New: Porter Flea Emerging Artists
At the 2016 Porter Flea Holiday Market, the first hand-picked class of Porter Flea Emerging Artists will be sharing their talent as they work to build up their businesses.
The aim was to find talented makers who are new to the creative field, and who could use assistance in building up a brand. Those Emerging Artists would get a fee-free space at the 2016 Holiday Flea, a pairing with a mentor in their field, prominent promo from the Flea folks and — a big point of pride for us — an Intro to Entrepreneurship Starter Kit from The Skillery, to help them move pointedly and preparedly toward growing their passion into a thriving business.
At Skyway Studios on December 9 and 10, you’ll meet these deserving recipients of our combined enthusiasm at the Porter Flea Emerging Artist table:
We’re honored to play a part in this Emerging Artist effort, and we’re excited to once again see Nashville come out in droves to fill stockings/stuff trees while supporting the work of local/regional entrepreneurs, from furniture designers and skateboard makers to beard-care product providers. Check out the list of vendors at the Porter Flea website.
Thinking about heading to the Porter Flea Holiday Market? Tickets to Friday’s Preview Market are on sale, as are VIP Porter Passes that’ll help you skip the line at Saturday’s main market. You can enjoy the Flea without tickets too — 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 10, doors are open, vendors are selling, and you’re invited to attend free of charge.
However you choose to be there, we hope you’ll stop by and see the Emerging Artists, and throw some love to small businesspeople on the rise. Congrats to the chosen artists, and many thanks to Porter Flea for getting us involved in something that fits perfectly into why The Skillery exists.
If you'd like to join the Porter Flea Emerging Artists in getting some fun, approachable business-basics education from The Skillery, our next Intro to Entrepreneurship workshop is scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 21, and early bird registration is going now; Starter Kits are also available now (and if you're thinking about gifting, for the holidays, both gift-wrapping and shipping are included).
See you at the Flea,
