Skillery Friends & Family Father's Day gift guide

Nicole Keiper

In April, we shared a Mother’s Day Gift Guide stocked with items made, sold or otherwise offered by members of The Skillery community, from coworking members to teachers to friends. Since we’re coming up on Father’s Day, figured it’s time to share some picks for Dads, from learning opportunities to shaving indulgences:

BEARDITION FATHER’S DAY SHAVE SET It almost goes without saying that we’d nod toward our friends at Beardition on Father’s Day, since they’re formidable Nashville stewards of stubble and scruff and stuff. But we’ll say it anyway: Beardition’s all-natural beard and grooming products are awesome — they feel great, smell great and come from some talented Nashville entrepreneurs (including Skillery member Kristin Schleihs). Hard to go wrong on Father’s Day with their Father’s Day Shave set, with shave cream, after shave, pretty rad cotton drawstring bag and more. ($36, Beardition.com)

WALK EAT NASHVILLE FOOD TOUR TICKETS We tipped toward this awesome food tour in our Mother’s Day gift guide, but of course, Nashville food love is for everybody. And Skillery member/CO.STARTERS at The Skillery grad Karen-Lee Ryan also recently added a new tour to the Walk Eat mix — a Midtown Nashville food tour with stops at six different restaurants and shops — that any food-loving local or Nashville visitor would have a blast at. Sort of literally — if the tour stops at upscale steakhouse Union Common, Karen-Lee might get gifted mixologist Davey Jones to make a New Orleans Campfire cocktail, which includes rye, Amaro, absinthe, bitters, cinnamon and a little bit of fire. ($49 per person, WalkEatNashville.com)

NISOLO CARD HOLDER We fell in love with Nisolo’s well-made leather goods and commitment to social good back before The Skillery’s doors opened, and we hosted a pop-up coworking day in Nisolo’s Germantown space. Their shoes and boots are classic and cool, but since it can be tough to buy shoes for someone else, we’ll nod toward their simple card holders, perfect for Dad to stash the credit card he’ll be using to pay for dinner even though you specifically asked to take him out. Oh, Dad. (If you have a dad who likes boat shoes, Nisolo’s are traditional and impeccable, too.) Bonus right now — they have a 15 percent off Father’s Day deal going. ($12, Nisolo.com)

JACKALOPE BEER SOAP FROM LITTLE SEED FARM Our goat-farming friends at Little Seed Farm are coming to The Skillery on June 25 for a special happy hour edition of our Office Hours series, and we plan on asking lots of questions about entrepreneurship and how cute baby goats are. At Little Seed, they combine grass-fed goat milk with organic oils and herbs from their farm to create various soaps and skincare products. Not sounding very Dad-like, granted. Here’s some more dad: They also teamed with Nashville’s Jackalope Brewery on Jackalope Beer Soaps, which bring the aromas of Jackalope’s fine brews — from their American Pale Ale to their Bearwalker Maple Brown Ale. Why beer soap? Well, amino acids and minerals and vitamins and stuff in beer are great for skin and hair — the bars in this Jackalope Beer Soap Set can be used for shaving, for shampoo, or generally for adding some suds to your… sudsing. ($18, LittleSeedFarm.com)

MUSIC CITY COOKOUT GIFT BATCH FROM BATCH We just celebrated the graduation of the first CO.STARTERS for Food Entrepreneurs cohort, in partnership with Batch — and if we didn’t know before that those Batch folks are titans of Nashville food, we certainly know now. (We knew… but still.) Want Batch to offer a little help wrangling some great local stuff for Dad? Peep the Music City Cookout Gift Batch, stocked with a jar of original East Nashville Spice, mild salsa from Ousley's Ouch Salsa, a bag of mango chipotle all-natural beef jerky from Sweet Meat Jerky and lots more. A particularly great choice if you live far away from your Dad, and want to send a little taste of your home his way. ($47, BatchUSA.com)

BAR GOODS AT HEY ROOSTER GENERAL STORE If your dad enjoys making a cocktail at home from time to time, we urge you to swing by Hey Rooster General Store (1106 Gallatin Avenue in East Nashville), led by CO.STARTERS at The Skillery graduate Courtney Webb. Along with tons of other awesome stuff, from clothes to pantry items, Courtney stocks a fantastically curated mix of mixers and bar needs, from locally made Eli Mason mixers to various syrups and bitters, like the El Guapo Gumbo bitters, made in New Orleans and infused with all the flavors of a great Louisiana gumbo. ($22, HeyRooster, com)

TICKETS TO INTRODUCTION TO ENTREPRENEURSHIP AT THE SKILLERY Have a dad who’s been eager to break out on his own? We’d be remiss if we didn’t toot our own horn: We designed the upcoming, one-day Introduction to Entrepreneurship workshop to be a thorough and hands-on overview of business development topics. By day’s end, we aim to have hopeful entrepreneurs set to move toward starting their businesses. If Dad’s been dreaming about building his own empire, send him our way — we’d love to help. ($179-$199, TheSkillery.com)

SOBERDOUGH BREW BREAD Dad something of an amateur chef? You can encourage him to explore being a bread artist, too, with Nashville-made Soberdough, a mix that just requires adding a beer and baking for exceptional homemade bread. (Soberdough’s Veronica Hawbaker was a CO.STARTERS for Food Entrepreneurs mentor.) There are a bunch of different flavors (which you can them augment depending on the beer you choose) — suppose if we’re thinking dad-centric, Soberdough’s Buffalovin’ Wing (spicy, cheesy, a little sweet) is a solid choice. Lots of local spaces (including Batch’s place in the Nashville Farmers Market and Hey Rooster) carry Soberdough, so it’s as easy to find as it is to love. (8.95, Soberdough.com)

STEADFAST COFFEE GIFT CERTIFICATE For the better part of a year, Steadfast Coffee operated a pop-up inside our space, serving espresso drinks and Matchless coffee soda and lots more. Now they’re all growed up, with a full shop open behind us, serving breakfast, lunch, dinner and, of course, all the good caffeinated stuff. We may be biased, but we’re also correct: They make some of the finest coffee in town. So if your dad’s a fan of espresso-related goodness (or regular old great coffee), we highly recommend you subsidize some trips to Steadfast. Just stop by 603 Taylor Street in Germantown and ask for a gift certificate. (Steadfast.coffee)
